“Timing is everything,” is a great saying that can apply to so many things in anyone’s life.  In painting, this is as true as ever.  While many people plan on painting in the upcoming summer, few tend to get estimates and line up a contractor ahead of time.  As in many industries, the best companies in the industry tends to book up early, this is no exception in painting.  We spend our fall and early spring filling our summer schedules with projects, which reduces our flexibility during the peak seasons.  If you are someone who has a busy summer schedule as well, there are many advantages to lining up a contractor ahead of time.  Not only can you save money (we offer various pre-season discounts), but the peace of mind of knowing that you have the best contractor scheduled to do work on your home during a time that fits your schedule makes the project much more enjoyable and less stressful.  If you are thinking about painting this summer, why procrastinate and jeopardize your chances of getting the best company to do your work during the best time for you??  Call Signature Painting to schedule your free estimate today, save yourself some money as well as the stress of scrambling to find a good contractor during the busiest season of the year.  We look forward to hearing from you and helping with your spring and summer projects!!

Evaluating and Comparing Paint Estimates

By · April 2, 2010 · Filed in Paint Estimates · No Comments »

Now that you’ve decided to have your home painted, how do you decide which painting contractor should do the job? You can begin with inviting several painters to your home to give you that estimate. What you’ll end up getting are different quotes, because no two painting contractors are the same.  Each painter will offer you a different price for the painting job, leaving you bewildered and confused-thus, comparing and evaluating nearly impossible. So now you’re scratching your head and you’ve been left more confused than when you didn’t have any quotes.

Each painting contractor will approach the job differently. If you need   interior painting done one painting contractor may include an extra finish coat in the price, while another contractor may not. Painting Contractors must have some type of competitive edge. There are many competitors in the filed and a painting contractor can be easily outbid by another company. Perhaps one bidder may offer a prime coat with no extra cost, while another bidder offers a light well as party of the quote package.

So how do you avoid all the confusion when needing interior painting or exterior painting done? As a homeowner you need to provide a complete project description. This doesn’t have to be a completed process.  Just tell each painter what you need. Keep your description the same for each bidder. Whether you need interior painting or exterior painting, this will help in receiving more uniform quotes from your bidders.

Here is an example:

Job Description:
I need an exterior painting
Address: 78 Greenway Drive

Please include the following: front of house, back, and east side light well.

  • I would like all surfaces prepared before painted
  • Please use a prime coat and 2 coats of finish paint
  • Use Kelly-Moore paints
  • Please use the same color for front and back

Try not to stray too far from your description. Some painters will offer something different from what you described. This could end up throwing you off, and leaving you back where you started. If the bidders throw in extras-ask them for an alternative price. For example: If the painter recommends an extra coat of paint, then ask for a price just for that extra coat. The goal is for you-the homeowner- to evaluate and compare paint estimates with the least amount of confusion as possible.
