Painting and Construction Company Specializing in Working with Community Associations
Signature Painting and Construction Inc recently completed another association painting project in Rohnert Park, Ca for Grapevine Property Services. Here is a short video that shows some after shoots of the Country Club Gardens HOA. This was another four week project that came out looking great. About a week ago our foreman Dave and our Sales Manager Nick Rasmussen did a walk through with Nichole from GPS along with the board President. During the walk through we weren’t able to find ANY touch-ups! That’s not to say that if they find some in the future we won’t come back out there to take care of them, it just shows the pride that our crews take in each job we do. There’s nothing more satisfying that having 52 happy homeowners! Check out the reference letter Nichole wrote our company a couple days after completion.

Staining and Painting Project in Lafayette, CA
Here are some after pictures of the staining project that we recently completed in Lafayette, CA. This was a high-end home that was built a little over five years ago. Due to the sun exposure this property had areas that were lighter and dark throughout the exterior which poses a challenge when going to re-stain. In order to give the shingles a uniform look here is the process that we had to perform: 1) Carefully wash all areas to assure that the singles are clean enough to allow the new stain to cure properly, 2) Apply a wood brightener to all darker areas and scrub in by hand, 3) Rinse off all areas and re-apply brightener as necessary so that a uniform look is achieved.
After the preparation was completed we sprayed and back-brushed all of the stained areas to achieve the final product that you see in this pictures.

The Secret To Perfect Paint Job: PREPERATION WORK!!!
It’s not uncommon for our company to visit homes that are covered in peeling and cracking paint. In most situations this is due to homeowners waiting 10 or more years before calling a paint contractor to repaint the house. However, it is a tragedy when we come to find the home owner JUST HAD THE HOUSE PAINTED LAST YEAR!
The unfortunate truth about the paint contracting is this: Many contractors will not take the appropriate steps to properly treat your home before painting. It is not uncommon for painters delivering a low bid to cut corners in order to stay on budget. The easiest way for these contractors to cut corners is by skipping the most important step of the painting process, preparation work.
In order to avoid the financial and emotional stress that come with an improper paint job, be sure to hire a contractor who follows the proper steps:
- The first step of preparation is a full pressure wash of the home. Pressure washing removes all the dirt, dust, and other particles from the surface of your home. This process typically takes at least a few hours.
- If there is mold or mildew located on the surface of the home, these areas must be treated. Signature painting uses an environmentally safe product that will suffocate the affected areas without harming near buy animals or plants.
- All areas with loose paint that are pealing or cracked must be completely scrapped off the side of the home.
- These areas should then receive a proper sanding to avoid an unsightly divot.
- All areas of bare wood should be primed.
- Gapes between wood joints should be properly caulked and sealed
- Lastly, all areas around the home vulnerable to paint should be covered prior to the painting process.
Signature painting dedicates at least 70% of painting process to preparation work. This will ensure a long lasting beautiful paint job.
New Lead Regulations, Beware!!!
Living in the Bay Area, lead paint on older homes is a common issue for many homeowners and contractors. Recently the EPA released new guidelines for lead abatement which increase the paramaters as well as the fines, for dealing with lead paint abatement. The new lead laws went into effect on April 22nd, 2010, so make sure you are dealing with a contractor who is certified by the EPA under the new codes. Some of the guidelines for dealing with lead paint include:
- Work must be completed by a contractor who has been certified by an accredited program under new EPA lead laws, which went in to effect on 4/22/2010.
- All surfaces not being worked on must be covered with 6 mil plastic every morning, this includes floors, walls, partition walls, doorways, windows and any other applicable surfaces. Plastic must be removed at the end of each workday and taken to a certified Haz-Mat dump.
- Workers must wear full body Haz-Mat suits, gloves, booties and respirators. Suits, gloves, booties and respirator filters must be contained and properly disposed of at the end of each work day (taken to Haz-Mat dump with plastic mentioned above)
- All surfaces must be cleaned with HEPA vacuum followed by a thorough mopping to remove all dust that may contain lead particles. This must be done on a daily basis whenever scraping or sanding is done.
For a full outline of the new regulations, visit the EPA website, and next time you hire a painting contractor, be sure they are certified under the new laws. Signature Painting is the Bay Area’s premier residential and commercial painting company and is certified and in compliance with all current EPA regulations. Going Green with Painting
We have come a long way since the early days of painting. As a population, we have become increasingly concerned with our environment and using eco-friendly products. Early paint products contained poison and toxins that polluted the environment and the air around us. Most paints also contained lead which kids were tempted to ingest because of their sweet flavor. The devastating effects led to kidney damage in children, mood swings, problems with developing nervous systems, and high blood pressure in adults. Needless to say we have paid quite a high price for painting and decorating our homes.
But this isn’t the case anymore. There are many companies who make eco-friendly paint. These are non-toxic paints that use organic ‘milk paints’ which are very safe but may lack in durability. There are paints that offer high-performance latex paints and don’t include unsafe toxins. Due to recent government rulings, more paint companies have produced eco-friendly paints that contain low or zero VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds). Many companies still produce and toxic or market high VOC paints. So you may want to do a little research on who you are buying your paint from before the big paint job.
Many of the newer paints do not contain toxins and these earth friendly paints also offer the durability you’re searching for. So how do you know if the paint is earth friendly? The first place to look is on the label of the paint can. Do you see a government warning label? If so, this brand may not be safe and contain some toxins or VCO’s. It’s vital to your health and the environment to read these labels very carefully. If you’re not sure where to look for eco-friendly paints you can visit your local hardware stores or do an online search. Remember it’s your family’s health and the future of our planet.

Which Color Should I Paint My House?
Painting contactors can be quite helpful in helping you choose the right color for your house. Most folks aren’t sure which color they should choose. After all, this is a big decision that you will have to live with for a long time. So how do you go about choosing that perfect color?
If you’re thinking about having the exterior of your house painted begin with a quick walk outside. Take notice to your surroundings such as the color of your roof, your shrubbery, and the color of your neighbor’s house. You don’t need to make your decision based primarily on these things, but it does help. Choosing a color that is in harmony is very important. You wouldn’t want the color of your house to clash with your neighbors. Your goal is to harmonize when choosing a paint color.
Now let’s talk about interior painting. Interior painting is a little different. Take a look at the main color of your wall. Choosing a paint color is very personal and you will want to be pleased with the color you choose. Visit a friend’s home and look at the colors of their walls. Do you like the colors they chose? Take a look at the clothes in your closet. Perhaps the color of your favorite outfit will help you determine what color you want your bedroom to be.
Another helpful tool in deciding which color to paint your house is the color wheel. You can observe a spectrum of colors that are divided into primary and secondary colors. You can visit your local art supply store for a complimentary color wheel. Don’t be afraid to be creative and mix colors. Just keep focused on keeping your colors harmonized.
How to Get the Most for your Money When Having Your House Painted
The internet has opened many doors to the world of shopping. All we have to do is search on bing or google and we can find just what were looking for. You can bargain hunt on Amazon or bid on EBay for the lowest price on just about anything from cars to jewelry. However; if you’re searching for the best bargain in house painting, there are more variables involved than bidding on a fair price.
Everyone’s looking for a way to stretch a dollar. We understand where you’re coming from-house painting can be costly. But simply calling a painting contactor with the square footage you need for an interior painting job, isn’t enough information to make an informative estimate. House painting not only involves the total square footage; but the size of each room, number of rooms, and the types of doors and windows. Painters also look at the number of paint colors and their intensity, the amount of paint needed, and how much preparation is needed for paint surface. If you want exterior painting, then the painter also looks at how much protection you’ll need for plants and anything else that needs protected. This also applies to your furniture for interior painting as well as exterior painting jobs. What does all this mean? It means a difference of 20 hours or possibly hundreds of hours of work for the painting contactor.
Now let’s talk about quality versus best bargain. Remember that the best bargain doesn’t mean that you’re getting the most for your money. Your home is your castle. You want a quality paint job for the right price. While saving money is important, you won’t want to skimp on quality house painting. Is the painting contractor licensed and insured? Do the painters use high quality paints? Does the painting company have core values? And here’s another important factor when searching for your new painting contactor- are they environmentally friendly? Do they recycle their materials when possible? There is hundreds of painting contactors listed on the internet. While many have money saving offers, they may not save you money in the long run if your home isn’t painted by qualified painters.
You want the most for your money, but remember-you want quality house painting and painters who will beautify your home inside and out!

Fairfield, CA Exterior Painting Project
We recently completed this beautiful home in Green Valley. It had been over ten years since this home had been painted, so needless to say this home needed a lot of prep work. Upon starting the job we also found some rotten work that needed to be replaced. Luckily, Signature Painting is a licensed general contractor and was able to handle all of the wood replacement at a very reasonable price to the homeowner. We ended up painting the body of the home in KM Wood Moss, the trim in Keystone, and the accent in Oxford Brown. The colors go really well with the surrounding landscape. In the end the homeowners were very happy with the work we did, and will have a home that will be protected and look great for years to come.
